The event is held simultaneously in different areas around the world on certain days of the year. Participants come together in the event areas and generate ideas in a limited time; builds small teams; develops creative and innovative games; present the games they have developed to other participants and the international community. As of 2013, the event is organized by Global Game Jam Incorporated.
